Who We Are
Resi-Care (CB) Association is a non-profit association which provides community based residential services and support to persons with intellectual disabilities. Resi-Care Association supports 57 individuals in 14 homes located in the areas of Sydney and Sydney Mines. Resi-Care (CB) Association is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who provide vision and policy direction to the organization.
Mission
Resi-Care Cape Breton Association is a non-profit association that provides residential services for intellectually disabled adults. The dignity of each person is assured although personal growth and development are supported in a home-like atmosphere.
Our Philosophies:
Commitment to the Concept of Normalization
The Association shall provide and/or develop service based on the principles of “Supported Inclusion”, “Social Role Valorization”, and “Normalization.” Normalization is defined as the “utilization of means which are as culturally normative as possible, in order to establish, enable, or support personal behaviors, appearances, and interpretations which are as culturally normative as possible.”
Commitment to Individual Rights
The Association is committed to upholding the human and legal rights of persons in the service system.
Commitment to Community Based Service Development
The Association is committed to the operation and development of community based services so as the provide a permanent alternative to the institutionalization of citizens who have intellectual disabilities. The Association shall further ensure that the development of community-based services is conducted in such a manner as to promote the highest possible degree of social and economic integration of citizens who have intellectual disabilities into the life of a community.

The association is committed to the operation and development of a quality of service which enhances dignity and reflects individual needs.
Commitment to Individual Program Planning
The Association shall ensusre that a suitable individual program plan is developed with each resident and/or representative.
Commitment to Individual Program Quality
The Association shall ensure that the individual resident’s program plan is developed to coordinate with other services he or she requires.
Commitment to Family
The Association acknowledges the Family (and other significant relationships) as integral in the lives of residents and welcomes family participation and involvement as partners in responding to the needs and aspirations of residents.
